Baptisia australis - Blue Wild Indigo
Baptisia australis - Blue Wild Indigo
Blue Wild Indigo patiently nurtures its roots for the first few years before presenting a breathtaking display of bluish-purple flowers. While its beauty is undeniable, caution should be exercised as parts of the plant are considered toxic (contains baptisin and cytisine). This is one reason why the plant serves as a host for the Wild Indigo Duskywing butterfly. The components in the plant deters pests from harming the eggs. Be sure to give ample space and airflow to prevent powdery mildew. Makes a stunning addition to dried floral arrangements.

Absolutely stunning deep purplish blue flowers! I also love that this helps with nitrogen in the soil. It makes a great companion plant in the veggie garden.
