Royal Catchfly is a captivating perennial that delights hummingbirds with its vibrant red blooms. It’s technically a carnivorous plant that's uniquely equipped with sticky flowers that trap ants and other small bugs to keep them from climbing and distributing the flowers. It does not gain any nutrition from its catch like other carnivorous plants. Trapped insects are broken down by enzymes so that they don't rot and damage the plant. Silene regia is endangered in some areas due to prairie loss, but is fairly easy to grow.
