Symphyotrichum oblongifolium - Aromatic Aster

Aromatic Asters are late bloomers in the garden so you get a beautiful pop of color in the fall time when a lot of other flowers are done for the season. The scent of foliage smells of zesty citrus and is very refreshing to smell. It is salt tolerant so it can withstand being planted next to driveways, roads, ditches, etc where winter road salt is usually tossed. Be sure to give it good air circulation to prevent powdery mildew from developing on the leaves.
